The loss of a baby, toddler, child or teenager is devastating to everyone. Whether it’s through an accident or illness the pain felt by those involved is indescribable. Nobody ever really plans for the death of a minor and even when it is expected the effect is devastating. Sadly we have witnessed this many times.
Children’s funerals are always deeply sad but, if you are in the position of having lost a child then we want to reassure you that we are going to do everything possible to make the funeral arrangements just a little easier to bear.
With a child’s funeral, we take a lot of time to ensure that the needs of the family can be gently approached. We rarely complete those arrangements in a single meeting, and allow you take time, to think and to decide on what you think is best. Nothing is ever rushed. For older children and teenagers, we can arrange things like online tributes and donation collections, which can be shared across social media platforms. For babies and younger children, a ceremonial dove release is often used. Like every funeral we arrange, nothing is impossible.
Financially, the impact of a child’s death is often unprepared for, but there is help available. For all children under the age of 18, the children’s funeral fund will contribute to the cost of child’s funeral regardless of the families’ circumstances. We can get funding to cover the cost of the cremation or burial, and also £300 towards the cost of a coffin. There still may be costs that as a family you will need to cover. These will be things like flowers, orders of service, purchasing a grave and the hire of a hearse if it’s needed.
Finally, we waive all our professional fees for a child’s funeral. Again this is for all children under the age of 18. Your family will not receive an invoice from us for any if the work we do to bring the funeral together. We are here to help you, and we do it because we want to be here for you and our community.
