Steve passed away peacefully on Sunday 5th June 2022 at East Cheshire Hospice. The much loved son of Hilda, and the late Malcolm. The treasured brother of Debbie and Jane. And a loyal friend to many.

Steve passed away peacefully on Sunday 5th June 2022 at East Cheshire Hospice.

The much loved son of Hilda, and the late Malcolm. The treasured brother of Debbie and Jane. And a loyal friend to many.

Steven will be lovingly remembered for his wry sense of humour and love for his family and friends. His passion for Stoke City football Club, Music and Horse racing. He was also a former employee of both the Congleton Chronicle, and the Stoke Sentinel. The latter for 18 years!

The funeral was held at Birches Crematorium, Northwich on 21st June 2022.

Obituary

Steven Foster was born at Macclesfield on 23rd June 1966 to Malcolm and Hilda Foster. The middle child, with an older sister Debbie and later Jane. The family lived in Congleton, on Sussex Place, before moving to Dane Bank Avenue. The Fosters also had a family dog called Sam, with whom Steve shared a special bond.

Steve was clever and attended Sandbach Grammar School after passing his 11 plus exams. After leaving school, Steve worked for the Chronicle in Congleton, before moving over to the Sentinel in Stoke on Trent where he worked for 18 years. He later moved to Medica in Crewe in 2006, where he was to stay for the rest of his career.

Steve was bitten by the travel bug. When he was 22 he went to Canada for 3 months. He also went to Vegas, Turkey and Berlin.  As an avid football fan, Steve also made it to the Work Cup Final in 2006. Steve was a massive Stoke City fan was a season ticket holder in the Boothen End. 

He loved Lemmy from Motorhead and saw them in every concert tour from 1980 until 2015. He loved Led Zeppelin too and music in general.

Steve was 30 when together with a couple of friends, they decided to cycle 1020 miles raising an amazing 4 and a half thousand pounds!

In 2020 Steve was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, even after never smoking. He stayed at home mostly, with the help of his family and only moved over to hospice care in the two weeks before he passed. He kept his humour to the very end and passed away peacefully on Sunday 5th June 2022 at East Cheshire Hospice.

His funeral and celebration of life, took place at Birches Crematorium, on Tuesday 21st June 2022. 

Upon arrival at the Crematorium, Steve was carried into the service accompanied to “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zepplin.  Civil Celebrant Kate Moran then offered words of welcome, before she read a wonderful eulogy to Steve.  The eulogy was full of fun anecdotes and fantastic stories of Steve’s life.  Following the eulogy, a video slideshow with many pictures of Steve was shown.  This was played to “Soulshine” by gov’t Mule which was one of Steve’s favourite songs.  Kate then read the Poem “My Stoke Heaven” as a homage to Steve’s favourite Stoke City football club. Following the committal and Kate’s closing words The attending mourners then left the chapel and filed past Steve’s coffin while his favourite “Ace of Spades” by Motorhead played. Despite the Steve’s passing being sad, his funeral was a real celebration of his life, and filled with many happy memories and stories.  Following his service, the mourning party continued the celebration of his life, at the Congleton Cricket Club.
